Madelaine S. Reuter, 77, passed away on August 5, 2024. Born on March 22, 1947, in Brooklyn, New York, she was the daughter of the late Peter and Sylvia Bommarito.

Madelaine was a proud alumna of St. John’s University, where she earned her degree in education. Her professional life encompassed serving as a special education teacher at Dix Hills schools, where she made an impact of the lives of many students with her passion. Outside of her professional career, she was deeply involved in her community, volunteering with the Junior League of Long Island and AHRC, demonstrating her commitment to helping those around her.

Madelaine is survived by her loving children: Pamela Dutcher and her husband Cory of Delmar, NY; Allison Murphy of Hopkinton, MA; and Jessica Smith and her husband Stuart of Highlands Ranch, CO. She was a devoted grandmother to eight grandchildren: Luke and Ellie Dutcher; Patrick, Connor, and Blake Murphy; and Campbell, William, and Andrew Smith. She also leaves behind her nephew Ronald Reuter and his wife Alicia, her nieces Ann Nordby and Jennifer Garry, her nephew Scott Garry, and her former husband Paul Reuter.

Madelaine’s passions extended beyond her professional and volunteer work. She enjoyed cooking, photography, needlepoint, reading, traveling, and playing intense games of Scrabble with family and friends. Her vibrant personality, passion for travel, and love for her family will be dearly missed.

A memorial service to celebrate Madelaine’s life will be held at St. Patricks Catholic Church in Williamstown, MA on Friday, August 9th at 11 AM. We invite all those that would like to honor Madelaine’s life to attend. In lieu of flowers, in memory of Madelaine, please send donations to the Williamstown Food Pantry..

We are thinking of all of you
It’s sad to have lost Maddy so young
We always remember her as spirited, adventurous and expressive
We have the most beautiful memories of our wonderful Thanksgiving celebrations that aunt Maddy and uncle Paul hosted in the Berkshires
It was such a great way to stay connected with everyone
Sending love and the gift of beautiful memories of Maddy
