 Agnes Helen Tatro

Agnes H. Tatro, 83, of 4 Pines Lodge Park, died yesterday at Sweet Brook Care Center.
Born in North Adams on March 24, 1918, daughter of John and Sadie Simon Tash, she moved to Williamstown as a child and attended the former Williamstown High School.
Mrs. Tatro started working at the age of 13 as a housekeeper for local families and, at 16, went to work for the former Cornish Wire Co. until 1943. In 1945, she began waitressing at the former Haller Inn and later worked at the former Treadway Inn as a chef's assistant and at the former Elwall Pines Restaurant. She was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams for seven years until its closing and by the former Hunter Outdoor Products, also in North Adams.
Mrs. Tatro also worked for ARAMARK food service at the former North Adams State College and for the North Adams Transcript in the circulation department.
She was a member of St. Raphael's Church, where she was a council member and a eucharistic minister, and played Santa for the hospital, churches and private functions for 35 years. She was also active in the church's annual festival, selling more than 3,000 tickets in a single year.
She married Godfrey Alfred Tatro on May 4, 1942. Mr. Tatro died Aug. 15, 1982.
Mrs. Tatro is survived by two sons, Richard Harman Tatro of Carbondale, Kan., and Joseph Alfred Tatro of Williamstown; two daughters, Emma Harris of North Adams, and Patricia Ann Tatro of Maui, Hawaii, and five grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian burial will be celebrated Friday, March 1, at 10 at St. Raphael's Church, Williamstown, by the Rev. William F. Cyr. Burial will follow in the family lot, Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours at GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME will be Thursday, Feb. 28, from 7 to 9. The omission of flowers is requested. Contributions in Mrs. Tatro's memory may be made to the St. Raphael's Church Renovation Fund through the funeral home, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267, which is in charge of the arrangements.
