Virginia M. Martin

Virginia Maria Martin, 93, of 20 Bradley St. died Saturday at Sweet Brook Health Care Center in Williamstown.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 22, 1907, daughter of Cesare and Luiggia Montagna Merlini, she attended Drury High School.
Mrs. Martin was employed by the former Sprague Electric Co. for more than 30 years, retiring in 1970. Before that, she was employed by the former Melanson and Gale shoe companies.
She was a communicant of St. Anthony's Church and a former communicant of Our Lady of the Incarnation Church, and a member of the Sprague Quarter Century Club and Sprague Retirees.
Her husband, Earl Watson "Buster" Martin, whom she married May 22, 1926, in Stephentown, N.Y., died July 26, 1971, in North Adams.
She leaves two daughters, Barbara O'Brien of Newport, N.C., and Rachaele Melillo of North Adams, with whom she resided; nine grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Priscilla Estabrooks, died Dec. 10, 1996.
The funeral for Virginia M. Merlini Martin will be Tuesday, Jan. 30, 2001, at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, Central Chapels, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, at 9:45 followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 70 Marshall St., North Adams, with the Rev. Daniel J. O'Hear, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be today from 4 to 8. Survivors include nine grandchildren, Anthony M. Melillo, Linda Melillo Chase, Michelle Melillo O'Toole, Ross Estabrooks, Wayne Estabrooks, Lizabeth O'Brien Boseman, Debra O'Brien Benedetti, Mimi O'Brien Gaudreau and Polly O'Brien Christiansen, and 17 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by a daughter, Priscilla Martin Estabrooks and siblings Lena Merlini Gibeau, Mary Merlini Haley, Angelo Merlini, Joseph C. Merlini and Silvio C. "Mink" Merlini
