William J. Perault Sr., 85

January 28, 2025

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —  William Perault Sr. Bill passed away on January 28, 2025 after a brief illness. He was born in Pittsfield, MA on December 31, 1939 to Thomas Perault and Helen Hubbard Perault. Bill married Diane Abruscato on December 27, 1992 in Weston, CT and celebrated 30 wonderful years together before her passing in May, 2023.

A pianist, Bill brought joy to those he played for - whether in their home for the guests he and Diane entertained or at many venues over the years such as Wheatleigh, The Orchards, Williams College Faculty Club, Portofino, and The 1896 House, to name a few. In addition to playing piano, Bill tuned and rebuilt pianos and found joy writing original compositions and arranging existing works. He also played keyboards for several local theater group productions. Bill was a fantastic cook and enjoyed developing and honing his recipes.

His sense of humor and laugh were hallmarks of his personality and appreciated by those fortunate enough to know him. Bill served his country as a member of the Air Force and was honorably discharged in 1964.

In addition to Diane, and his parents, Bill was pre-deceased by his stepson Richard Morsa; brothers Tom and Jim and his sister Pat. Bill is survived by his son Bill Perault Jr. and his wife Maryann and their children Hannah, Noah and Emily (Elijah); his daughter Michelle Perault; his former wife Judy Perault, many members of the Abruscato family and several close friends. Bill’s family thanks the team in Unit 3 at Williamstown Commons for their compassionate care of dad (and us). Thanks also to HospiceCare in The Berkshires for their care of dad during his final days.

A celebration of Bill’s life will be held at the The Williams Inn (101 Spring Street, Williamstown, MA) on Friday, April 11th from 2:30pm until 4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill’s memory to the Berkshire Music School, 30 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield, MA 01201. Recollections & Sympathy For the Family

Bill was one of my dearest friends, as of course was the lolove of his life, Diane. Indeed, they were Shuyang and Yiyi’s dearest friends whose welcoming to America was about the most meaningful they experienced.

In addition to sharing wine, Margaritas, bbq, music, and mirth, Bill and I were also collaborators on a musical which was a delight to create. I believe that we took so long in writing it because we enjoyed being together, and the musical gave us an excuse to spend more time. There was that and the post work delight of “surprise chicken” with Diane and Bill. I hope that one day audiences will be able to hear Bill’s “voice” come to life in the infectious music that he composed. There is joy, humor, invention, meticulousness and love in it — all hallmarks of the dear person who was Bill. He and Diane are irreplaceable; it was our great fortune to know them and our terrible grief to lose them.

Bill and Diane threw the greatest soirees ever. Great food and wonderful music. There were 7 of us and now there's just 3 left. I shall miss hearing Bill playing my favorite song and talking with him and Diane about old movies. It truly feels like the day the music died. Goodbye old friend.

Bill was a lovely lovely soul who I was introduced to by Diane. I had a lovely 1863 upright piano that Bill would come to my house and tune for me as well as play me a tune after doing so ... so we could admire his artistry. Rest in peace; I'm glad you're back with your sweetheart.

For Bill,Maryann, Noah, Eli, and Hannah! I send my love always, I so enjoyed sitting with Uncle Bill and Diane and aunts at the Perault Thanksgiving. We did a lot of laughing and smiling and eating. I think uncle Bill loved to laugh and be with happy people! I am blessed to be in his company! I am thinking he may be playing a tune for my mom to sing in heaven!
