Paul Mitchell Humora died peacefully in his Pacific Beach, San Diego, California home on the evening of January 28th, 2025 at the age of 83. His wife, Barbara, and their youngest son, Todd, were by his side.
Paul and Barbara bought their California condo in 2011 so that they could travel frequently from their primary residence in Silver Spring, Maryland to San Diego for visits with their daughter, Alison, son, Gregory, his wife Jennifer and two grandchildren, Mallory and Gage. The family is grateful that Paul’s illness coincided with one of their regular visits so that all of the children and grandchildren could be together with him. Just a few weeks before his death, the family celebrated Nana and Pa’s 57th wedding anniversary at a wonderful dinner together.
Before his retirement, Paul was a professor of biology for 30 years at North Adams State College in North Adams, Massachusetts. After his retirement he spent 11 years teaching biology at Archbishop Carroll High School in Washington D.C. Originally from Boston, he and Barbara moved to Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1967 to raise their three children. He was a Eucharistic Minister and a Lector at the family’s church St. Stanislaus Polish Catholic Church in Adams, Massachusetts. After moving to Silver Spring, Maryland in 1997, Paul and Barbara became active at St. John the Baptist Church where Paul also served as a Eucharistic Minister and Lector.
At the family home in Williamstown, Massachusetts, Paul cultivated a large garden and raised chickens. Nightly family suppers often consisted of food entirely raised in the backyard.
He really liked to cook, spending most of his time at home in the kitchen. He enjoyed a good recipe, a good deal, and a good coupon-stopping at as many grocery stores as possible on his way home from work. Football was big on Sunday’s (after church of course) rooting for both his hometown Patriots and his adopted home Ravens.
Paul loved to sail. He and Barbara owned a Catalina 36 sailboat followed by a Hunter 46 sailboat on the West River in Galesville, Maryland where they spent many weekends.
Paul is survived by his wife Barbara, oldest son, Gregory and his wife Jennifer, their children, Mallory and Gage, his daughter Alison and her fiancé, Todd Ward, and his youngest son Todd and his wife Laura Barrantes.
