Thomas "Mick" McAlpine ,81

February 27, 2025

Thomas L. “Mick” McAlpine, 81 of Williamstown MA passed away peacefully in his home on February 27, 2025, after a challenging 14-year battle with Multiple Myeloma. Born July 10, 1943, in North Adams, MA. He was the son of Thomas L. McAlpine and Olive (Bockes) McAlpine.

He attended Broad Brook School and graduated from Williamstown High School in 1961. Then graduated from Wentworth Institute of Technology in Boston, MA. Upon completion of his degree Thomas joined the US Army in 1964, where he was a helicopter mechanic stationed in Alaska. After the military, in 1967, he worked as a Design Draftsman for Sprague Electric in North Adams. was also employed as a Tooling Engineer at General Cable’s Automotive Division in Owosso MI. later moved back to Williamstown and started McAlpine Engineering Tooling and Design in North Adams MA. eventually became co-owner of Bump and McAlpine Carpentry and later McAlpine Carpentry, working together with his brother Ken for many years, until retiring in 2011.

Thomas is survived by his loving wife of 54 years Susan (McGuire) McAlpine; son Kelly McAlpine and his wife Jessie of Chelsea MI; daughter Jenifer McAlpine of Pittsfield MA. He also leaves his sister Deborah Christensen Richard of Los Lunas NM, his brother Kenneth (Diane) of Clarksburg, MA, and his sister-in-law Maureen McGuire of Williamstown, MA. As well as many nieces and nephews.

Thomas loved to restore furniture and was a master craftsman with wood working, along with being able to fix anything. He enjoyed spending time on his property and in the home and barn he built. He also enjoyed making puzzles and games for his favorite nieces and nephews. He was an avid reader, parcheesi champion, and loved when Sue would bake his favorite cookies or homemade chocolate pie.

The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to the team of doctors and nurses at Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center and the doctors at Dana Farber Cancer Institute in Boston. Memorial donations may be made to Southwestern Vermont Cancer Center or to the Williamstown American Legion Post 152.

A celebration of life and graveside service will be announced in the spring.
