Diane Murphy, 82

Diane May (Hartman) Murphy, 82, of Williamstown, MA, died Tuesday April 1, 2025, at home. She was born in North Adams on September 10, 1942, a daughter of the late Charles Edward and Irene (Morris) Hartman.



As a young entrepreneur, she ran her own popcorn stand out of the family-owned Hartman garage. She graduated from Williamstown High School in 1960. After graduation she worked at the Pownal Tannery, Cornish Wire, Clock & DeCloux Hatchery at Mt. Hope Cow Barn, and K & H PortaBrace. She was especially proud of her time as Assistant Farm Manager at Harco Orchards Poultry Farm in Norton (1974-1982), which is where she met the love of her life, Larry. Diane was a self-taught artist and enjoyed painting. One of her most cherished pieces, a vibrant mural representing homes, hobbies, and favorite spots of her loved ones, “Familyville.”



Diane leaves behind her husband Lawrence Michael Murphy of Williamstown; children Brenda Little (John), Robin Nelson (John Morin), Michael Murphy (Ellen), Michelle Murphy; brother Raymond C. Hartman (Kathy Martin); ten grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her sons Jason Murphy, Robert Hurley Jr.; her daughter Karen Belanger; and sister Linda Hartman.



FUNERAL NOTICE: Services for Diane Murphy will take place on Friday April 11, 2025 at Flynn & Dagnoli West Chapels, 521 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247. Calling hours will take place from 2-4 PM with a service immediately following. Burial will take place at a later date in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery. Our condolences to the family. Diane is remembered as former classmates from the class of WHS ‘60 and ‘62. Driving by Hartman’s when in town brings back fond memories. Rest in Peace Diane.
