Amely Smith, 98

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —



Amely Helen Baer was born in Koenigsberg, Germany October 11, 1926. She lived in Germany during Nazi rule from 1933 to 1939. She emigrated to London England in the spring of 1939 and was in London during the German bombings. Amely then emigrated to the United States in late 1940. She lived for 20 years in Woburn, Massachusetts and graduated from Woburn High School. She then attended Northeastern University in Boston, from which she graduated in 1949.



Amely married Warner L. Smith in 1950 and had three sons: Edward, Joel, and Allen Smith. She, Warner and her parents moved to Williamstown, Massachusetts in 1961. While there, she was President of the Beth Israel Hadassah, active in the interfaith group, and in the Congregation and was also a volunteer at the North Adams hospital.



Amely and Warner moved to Brooksby Village in Peabody, Massachusetts in 2004. They both were quite active in Brooksby, with Amely serving as President of Hadassah and the Jewish Council. She also had many chairmanships of Brooksby organizations. Warner passed away in 2017 and Amely continued living at Brooksby until her passing.



Amely had a wide circle of friends wherever she lived and was loved by many, especially in Williamstown and neighboring North Adams and at Brooksby.



Her legacy continues with her family, Edward and Joanne Smith, Joel Smith and Sarah Larson, and Allen Smith and Denise DuChainey. She leaves her seven grandchildren, Caroline Smith and Evan Rutkowski, Abby and Andrew Petrsoric, Connor and Adrienne Afflerbach, Ian Smith, Rachel Smith, Rebecca Smith, and Timothy Smith. She also leaves three great-children.



FUNERAL NOTICE: Graveside services for Amely Smith will take place Monday August 25, 2025 at the Congregation Beth Israel Cemetery, 512 Walker St, Clarksburg, MA at 1:00 PM. To add to the book of memories, please visit www.flynndagnolifuneralhomes.com

Rest in peace Mrs. Smith. My family lived next to the Smiths on Woodlawn Dr.. Amely and my mother quickly became great friends. I will always remember her family and their kindness to all of my family.

I met Amely and her mother years ago when they came into where I worked. They were delightful people and I really appreciated them. I have thought of them often over the years, and memories of Amely have always been a blessing to me. My sincere condelences to her family and friends.
