William E. Wood, 79

October 10, 2025

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. —

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Mr. William E. Wood, who left us peacefully on October 10, 2025, at the age of 79, surrounded by his family and friends. Bill was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend, whose kindness, compassionate heart, and unwavering love touched the lives of all who knew him.

Born on April 17, 1946, in Adams Massachusetts, a son of the late Walter and Gladys (Phaneuf) Wood. He attended schools in Adams.

Bill lived a life full of purpose and dedication. He worked in the Naval Ordnance division of the General Electric Company for many years until retiring. Earlier he had been the chef at the former Howard Johnsons Restaurant in Williamstown.

He was known for his sense of humor, work ethic, creativity, and generosity. Beyond his professional achievements, he was a pillar of strength and compassion for his family, always putting their needs above his own.

Bill had a passion for cars, crocheting, carpentry, gardening, fishing, and music, and he found joy in the simple pleasures of life, like taking the family out for ice-cream. His laughter, stories, and warm presence will be deeply missed but forever cherished.

His wife, the love of his life, the former Beverly A. Gauthier, whom he married on September 25, 1965, died on April 18, 2025.

He is survived by his two daughters, Karen Clairmont and her husband Brian of Pittsfield and Pamela Kopala and her husband David of Bennington; his sister Sharon Fortier and her husband David of Adams; four grandchildren, Matthew and Julia Kopala and Nicole and Allison Clairmont; two great grandchildren, Isaac and Gabrielle and by many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his brother Donald Wood and his wife Marge.

Per William’s wishes, there are no services.

Though our hearts ache with his absence, we find comfort in knowing that his love and lessons will remain with us always. Rest in peace, Bill. You will forever be in our hearts.

Memorial donations may be made to Hospice Care in the Berkshires, 877 South St., Pittsfield, MA 01201. The PACIOREK FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams is in charge of arrangements. To leave a message of condolence, or for directions, please go online to www.paciorekfuneral.com.

He was funny and friendly. He loved to eat at restaurants (onion soup and clam chowder were musts) and spend time crocheting afghans. He was my friend who will be greatly missed. He is free of pain and back with Beverly. There's no speed limit now!
