Charles Mills Jr.

Charles Mills Jr., 73, of 1400 Main Road, Stamford, Vt., formerly of Williamstown, died Monday at Berkshire Medical Center.
Born in South Acton on Oct. 24, 1928, son of Charles Mills Sr. and Zeta Proctor Mills, he attended schools there and was a 1946 graduate of the former Williamstown High School.
He served in the Coast Guard from August 1946 until August 1949.
Mr. Mills was employed as a draftsman-designer at GE Ordnance Systems Division for 44 years, retiring Feb. 26, 1993. While at GE, he worked at Kennedy Space Center in Florida for five years.
He was a member of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners clubs, and enjoyed boating, fishing and golf.
His first wife, the former Lorraine Boudreau, died Nov. 9, 1980.
He leaves his wife, the former Shirley A. Field, whom he married March 12, 1983; two sons, John H. Mills of Nashua, N.H., and Edward C. Mills of Pittsfield; a daughter, Linda J. Mills of Winnetka, Calif.; a brother, William "Jerry" Mills of North Adams, and a granddaughter. He was predeceased by a brother and a sister.
Funeral services for Mr. Mills will be held Thursday, March 28, at noon at DERY FUNERAL HOME, Pittsfield, with the Rev. John R. Smith, pastor of Dalton United Methodist Church, officiating. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery in North Adams. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 11 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Mr. Mills may be made to the American Lung Association in care of DERY FUNERAL HOME, 54 Bradford St., Pittsfield 01201.
