Barbara S. Muir

Barbara Starr Muir, 85, of 386 North Hoosac Road died Saturday at home.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on March 3, 1917, daughter of Starr and Edna Ciresore Donaldson, she was educated in Brooklyn and Long Island schools.

During World War II, she volunteered as a nurses' assistant.

She was primarily a homemaker. She moved to Williamstown in 1967.

She was a longtime member of the Mohawk & Hudson River Humane Society of Menands, N.Y., and was very active in its programs. On Feb. 1, 1990, she received an award and a citation for her service to the society.

Her husband, Robert Frederick Muir, whom she married Nov. 16, 1953, in First Presbyterian Church of Far Rockaway, N.Y., died Dec. 15, 1968, in North Adams.

She leaves a son, Peter Donaldson Muir of Pittsfield; a sister, Desiree Westphal of Pensacola, Fla.; and two stepgrandsons. Predeceased by daughter-in-law Marcia Kinnas Muir on March 24, 2002.

Graveside committal services and burial will take place Thursday, April 4, at 2 at the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown, with the Rev. Wayne E. Earl, interim pastor of First Baptist Church of Williamstown, officiating. There will be no calling hours. Omission of flowers is requested. Friends who wish may make donations to the American Cancer Society through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
