Irene C. Leavens, 81

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Irene Carolyn Leavens, 81, of Hall Street died Sunday morning, April 21, 2002, at North Adams Commons.
Born in North Adams on July 2, 1920, daughter of Donald H. Meekin Sr. and Irene Sheldon Meekin, she graduated from the former Williamstown High School.
In her younger years, Mrs. Leavens was employed as a waitress at several restaurants in the area, including the Captain's Table, The Hub and Ethan Allen. She and her late husband, Thomas W. Leavens, owned and operated the Red Bat Cave in New Ashford at one time.
She enjoyed all crafts, especially knitting and sewing, and playing bingo.
She and her husband were married in August 1940.
Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Joanne Gagne of Adams and Janet Bombardier of Williamstown; three sons, Bruce Meekin of Tucson, Ariz., Thomas Leavens Jr. of St. Petersburg, Fla., and Francis Leavens of Adams; 16 grandchildren, and nine great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by a sister, Janet Haas, and a brother, Donald H. Meekin Jr.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Graveside committal services for Mrs. Murphy will be held Wednesday, April 24, at 10 at the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown.
