Lois A. Degere

Lois A. Degere, 69, of 70 Langlois Ave. died Thursday at Albany (N.Y.) Medical Center after a short illness.

Born in Adams on Nov. 17, 1932, daughter of Francis and Rachel Brodeur Kelly, she was a 1951 graduate of the former Adams High School. She also graduated from Becker Junior College in Worcester in 1953.

She was last employed by the Womens Exchange II. Prior to that, she was a secretary for First United Methodist and St. Johns Episcopal churches from 1982-86 and from 1986-95, respectively. She was first employed as a secretary by GE in Pittsfield for two years, then as a librarian for the former White Oaks Branch Library for eight years and by the Williamstown Community Day Care Center as a cook for three years.

Mrs. Degere was a member of St. Johns Episcopal Church and a former volunteer for Hospice of Northern Berkshire. She had been a member since 1974 of Alcoholics Anonymous, where she served as a mentor and sponsor for several members.

She and her husband, James Degere, were married June 12, 1954, in St. Thomas Church in Adams.

Besides her husband, she leaves two daughters, Cheryl Chalk of North Adams and Suzanne Lenhoff of Williamstown; three sons, Peter A. Degere of West Islip, N.Y., Mitchell J. Degere of Adams and Paul D. Degere of Lothian, Md.; a brother, Earl Kelley of Adams; a sister, Frances Livesey of Fort Pierce, Fla., and 11 grandchildren.

A funeral service in loving memory and thanksgiving for the life of Lois A. Kelly Degere will be conducted Monday at 10 at St. Johns Episcopal Church of Williamstown by the Rev. Peter T. Elvin, rector. Burial will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Calling hours will be Sunday from 3 to 7 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for Village Ambulance or the charity of the donors choice through the funeral home.
