Alta C. Steege

May 30, 2002

Alta C. Steege, 93, formerly of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Ardmore, Pa., died May 30 at Sweetbrook Continuing Care Center in Williamstown.

Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., on Dec. 14, 1908, daughter of Harrison S. Colburn and Bessie Lewis Colburn, she graduated from Kent Place, Summit, N.J., and the Connecticut College for Women, where she majored in psychology. She had resided in Connecticut for several years and later in Pennsylvania and North Carolina.

She had worked for several years with the Welcome Wagon of Ardmore.

She was active in the Congregational Church of West Hartford and St. Paul's Lutheran Church of Ardmore. She enjoyed playing the piano and traveling with her husband.

Her husband of 68 years, Edgar H. Steege, died in October 1998.

She leaves two sons, Dr. Harrison T. Steege of Malvern, Pa., and Richard Steege of Williamstown; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

A service is planned for Saturday, July 6, at 3 p.m. at First Congregational Church in Williamstown. Internment will be at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Durham, N.C.
