Amanda Naomi Roy, 98, of 90 Nutmeg Lane died Sunday evening at Sweet Brook Health Care Center in Williamstown.
Born in Williamstown on April 2, 1904, daughter of Zephrin and Maude Giroux Rancourt, she attended schools there. She was a longtime resident of North Adams before moving to Williamstown in 1975.
Mrs. Roy was first employed as an assistant cook for a fraternity house at Williams College. She then worked for Cornish Wire Co. and for the Textile Mill on Cole Avenue.
During World War II, she was employed by Sprague Electric Co. and was last employed by Hoosac Cotton Mills for several years, retiring in 1962.
She was a communicant of Notre Dame Church, where she was a member of the Society of St. Anne & the Ladies of Charity.
Her husband, Clarence A. "Buster" Roy, whom she married May 9, 1927, in Williamstown, died Oct. 22, 1951.
She leaves a daughter, Claire E. Roy of Williamstown, with whom she made her home. She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, Marguerite Kelley, Ida Lee, Helen Chenail, Ernest Rancourt and Arthur Rancourt.
The funeral will take be Thursday at 10 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Notre Dame du Sacre Coeur Church in North Adams. Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery, North Adams. Calling hours at the funeral home will be tomorrow from 2 to 6. Memorial donations are suggested for the Medical Mission Sisters or to the Alzheimer's Unit Recreational Program at Sweet Brook Health Care Center through the funeral home.
