Edward Carl Therrien

February 16, 2001

Mr. Edward Carl Therrien, 79 of 1685 Oblong Rd., Williamstown, MA, died Friday morning Feb. 16, 200l in the emergency room of the North Adams Regional Hospital where he was taken after being stricken earlier in the day.

He was born in North Adams, MA on February 28, 1921. He was educated in North Adams schools.

Mr. Therrien was first employed by the former Gale Shoe Co. on Brown St. in North Adams until the outbreak of World War II. He entered the US Army and served as a first sergeant with Company A, 8th Tank Battalion of the 4th Armored Division of the US Army. He participated in the campaigns of Normandy, Northern France, Luxembourg, Belgium, Rhineland, Central Europe, and Czechoslovakia. He served from 1943, when they sailed to England, until his honorable discharge in 1943.

Following the war, Mr. Therrien returned to North Adams, where he was employed by the former James Hunter Machine Co. for 42 years until his retirement in 1986.

He was a communicant of St. Patrick’s Church in Williamstown. He was a member of the Hunter Quarter Century Club and the Hunter Retirees. He was a founding member and a life member of the Post #8304 VFW of Williamstown, MA and he was a member of the 4th Armored Division Association.

Survivors include his wife, the former Louise M. Montagna whom he married on December 1,1945 in St. Anthony of Padua Church in North Adams. She is the retired Treasurer and Tax Collector for the Town of Williamstown.

A brother, Leonard Therrien died in 1999.

Funeral services will take place Tuesday morning Feb. 20, 2001 at 10;00 AM at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals WEST CHAPELS 521 West Main St., North Adams followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM at St. Patrick’s Church in Williamstown celebrated by the Rev. William F. Cyr, Pastor. Burial will follow in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown, MA. Calling hours at Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals WEST CHAPELS are Monday from 3-6 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in care of the Flynn & Dagnoli-Montagna Home for Funerals 52 1 West Main St. North Adams, MA 01247 which is in charge of arrangements.
