WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Helen E. Van Horn, 92, a resident of Water Street, died Wednesday, July 31, 2002, at Sweet Brook Care Centers following a brief illness.
Born in North Adams on Oct. 1, 1909, daughter of Richard and Kate Guilefuss Estes, she attended schools in Ravena, N.Y., and was a 1927 graduate of Ravena High School. She later attended Albany (N.Y.) Business College.
Mrs. Van Horn was employed as a secretary by the registrar's office at Williams College from 1956 until 1971.
She was a member of First United Methodist Church and the Williamstown Grange. She enjoyed knitting and crocheting.
Her husband, Howard Van Horn, whom she married Sept. 22, 1934, died July 27, 1971.
Survivors include a daughter, Dorothy Etman of North Adams; a son, John Van Horn of Williamstown, with whom she made her home; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren, and two step-great-grandchildren.
Another daughter, Eleanor E. Rickert, died Sept. 19, 1998.
FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mrs. Van Horn will be conducted Saturday, Aug. 3, at 10 from Sherman Burbank Memorial Chapel by the Rev. Sandra Rehe, pastor of First United Methodist Church in Williamstown. Burial will take place in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery.
There will be no calling hours. Should friends desire, contributions in Mrs. Van Horn's memory may be made to the Salvation Army, the Visiting Nurses Association of Northern Berkshire or to one's favorite charity through the office of GEORGE M.
