Kathleen Lewis

Kathleen Lewis, 98, of Orchard Street died yesterday at Williamstown (Mass.) Commons, where she had resided since Feb. 17, 2000.

Born in Halifax, Nova Scotia, on Aug. 21, 1904, daughter of Albert E. and Alice L. Fear Russell, she came to the United States as a teenager with her family. She resided in Stamford from 1920 to 1947, when she moved to Pownal. She attended the former Bliss Business College in North Adams, Mass. Mrs. Lewis was employed for 20 years as a clinical assistant at North Adams Hospital, now North Adams Regional Hospital, retiring in 1976.

Before that, she worked for several years at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams and at the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown. She was a member of United Methodist Church, the Red Mountain chapter Order of Eastern Star in West Arlington and the Women of the Moose in Bennington. She enjoyed crocheting and flowers. Her husband, Murray F. Lewis, whom she married Sept. 26, 1920, died May 20, 1970.

She leaves a son, Murray R. Lewis of Pownal; three daughters, Alice Laperriere of Riverview, Mich., Edna Cardimino of North Adams and Kathleen Eastman of Bennington; a sister, Ruth Bush of Hancock, Mass.; 11 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren, and three great-greatgrandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Kathleen Russell Lewis will be conducted Wednesday at 10 at Pownal United Methodist Church by the Rev. Gaylord Campbell, pastor. Burial will follow in Millard Cemetery, Stamford, Vt.

Calling hours at AUGE-SAN SOUCIE-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME in North Adams will be Tuesday from 6 to 8. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the Pownal Rescue Squad or Pownal United Methodist Church, both in care of the funeral home, 46 North Church St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors include several nieces and nephews. Two brothers, Earl Russell and Benjamin Russell, predeceased her.
