Edith S. Bleezarde

Edith S. Bleezarde, 94, of 71 Benlise Drive died Monday at Sweet Brook Care Center, where she had resided since April.
Born in Bluffton, Ind., on April 25, 1908, daughter of Thomas N. and Rosanna Biberstine Shoup, she graduated from Bluffton High School in 1926 and from Defiance (Ohio) College in 1930.
She moved to Williamstown in 1992, after living in New Lebanon, N.Y., for many years where her husband, Warren V. Bleezarde published a weekly newspaper, The Echo. Mrs. Bleezarde taught Latin and coached women's basketball at the high school in Fort Recovery, Ohio.
In 1953, she became a Latin and French teacher at Cornwall Academy in Great Barrington and, during the 1960s, taught at the former Searles High School and at Monument Mountain Regional High School, also in Great Barrington, retiring in 1969.
While in the New Lebanon area in the 1940s and '50s, she was a founder and officer of the Parent Teachers Association, a Cub Scout pack leader, and a member of the New York State League of Women Voters. She was active in the New York State Democratic politics and served as an election official in New Lebanon for several years.
Her husband, whom she married June 4, 1932, died Sept. 15, 1998. She leaves two sons, Thomas W. Bleezarde of Williamstown and Ronald F. Bleezarde of Pownal, Vt.; five grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside committal services will be held in Ravena, N.Y., at the convenience of the family. Memorial contributions may be made to the Berkshire County Chapter of the American Cancer Society or to the American Heart Association in care of FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS at 74 Marshall St., North Adams, MA 01247, which is in charge of arrangements.
