Edward J. Morin

Edward J. Morin, 65, of 896 North Hoosac Road died Saturday at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt., after being stricken earlier in the day. He was the owner of Sand Springs Springwater Co. and a retired police officer.

Born in North Adams on Nov. 30, 1936, son of Leo and Virginia Johnson Morin, he was a 1956 graduate of Drury High School. He also attended Berkshire Community College, where he took several criminal justice courses. He enlisted in the Army in 1958 and served in Europe.

Mr. Morin was employed by Hamilton-Standard Aircraft Co. in Windsor Locks, Conn., until joining the service. When he returned, he worked at North Adams Regional Hospital and, in 1964, became supervisor of the former Signet Club in Adams. He joined the Williamstown Police Department in 1967 and graduated from the Massachusetts Police Academy in 1969.

He retired from the force in 1989. In 1988, he purchased Sand Springs after managing the business on a part-time basis for three years. His wife, the former Maxine Gross, and his daughter, Jennifer Ann Morin of Williamstown, assisted in its operation.

He was a member of the Massachusetts Police Association and enjoyed traveling to Aruba. He and his wife were married Aug. 15, 1970, in St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Adams. He leaves his wife and daughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral to celebrate the life of Edward J. Morin will be Wednesday at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels. Burial will follow with military honors in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.

Calling hours will be tomorrow from 4 to 8 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire, Williamstown Youth Center or the Jimmy Fund through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.

Survivors include his father-in-law, Lawrence Gross Sr.; brother-in-law, Lawrence H. Gross Jr. and his wife, Marcia, and longtime family friend Richard Dunstan.
