Hazel Merriam Geraghty

Hazel Merriam Geraghty, 103, formerly of Meadowvale, Apt. B1, 35 Adams Road, died Sunday morning at Sweet Brook Health Care Center, where she had resided since April 20, 1994.

Born in Pittsfield on Sept. 25, 1899, daughter of James and Josephine Merriam Normille, she moved to Adams and later to North Adams with her family and graduated from Drury High School in 1917. She was a longtime resident of River Road, Clarksburg, until moving to Williamstown in 1987.

As a young woman, she taught at the former Bliss Business College in North Adams and then was employed as a secretary in the business office of the former Wall-Streeter Shoe Co. on Union Street, North Adams, until her marriage in 1928.

During World War II, she assisted the war effort by working at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams She was a communicant of St. Francis' Church in North Adams and a former member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas. Her husband, Louis Henry Geraghty, whom she married May 21, 1928, died June 15, 1973. She leaves a daughter, Marjorie Beaudoin of Leesburg, Fla.; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren, and a great-great-grandaughter.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Hazel Merriam Geraghty will be Thursday, Oct. 10, at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at St. Francis of Assisi Church in North Adams. Burial in Hillside Cemetery, North Adams.

Calling hours will be Thursday for one hour before the funeral. Memorial donations are suggested for Clarksburg Volunteer Fire Dept. through the funeral home.

Survivors include son-in-law Rolland Beaudoin; grandchildren Barbara Ruggeri of Westchester, Pa., and Randall L. Beaudoin of North Adams; great-grandchildren Christopher Beaudoin of Westchester and Carrie Beaudoin of North Adams; and great-great-grandaughter Paige Beaudoin of Westchester. Predeceased by two sisters, Annabel Normille and Florence Geraghty, and a brother, James Normille.
