John Michael Kelley

John Michael Kelley, 85, of 87 Bachand Ave., died Thursday at Arleigh Burke Pavilion in McLean, Va. He was a local civic leader, serving on several boards and committees.

Born in Williamstown on July 12, 1917, son of John P. and Mary O'Neill Kelley, he graduated from the former Williamstown High School in 1935. He also graduated from Williston Academy in Easthampton in 1937.

Mr. Kelley was employed for many years as the general traffic and distribution manager at Cornish Wire Co., a division of General Cable Co.

He was a lifelong communicant of the Parish of St. Patrick and St. Raphael and a member of the parish's former Holy Name Society. He was a member and chairman of the Williamstown School Committee from 1961 to 1965 and a member of the Mount Greylock Regional High School Committee for several years in the 1970s.

He was an organizer and first vice president of the Williamstown Community Association and also served on the Northern Berkshire Area Redevelopment Committee. He also was involved in founding the Williamstown Little League program.

He and his wife, the former Margaret Butler, were married April 26, 1942, at St. Francis de Sales Church in Bennington, Vt.

Besides his wife, he leaves a daughter, Kathleen Kelley Fallon of Colleyville, Texas; two sons, Michael Timothy Kelley of McLean and Joseph Butler Kelley of Vienna, Va.; a sister, Margaret Dolan of Bridgeport, Conn., and three grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Mass of Christian Burial for John Michael Kelley will be celebrated Tuesday at 10:30 at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown. Burial will follow in the family plot in Westlawn Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9.

Memorial donations are suggested for the Virginia Sheldon Jerome Foundation through the funeral home, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. He was predeceased by two granddaughters, Mary Kathleen Kelley and Johanna Dawson Fallon; a brother, Patrick William Kelley Sr. and a sister, Sister Rita Kelley of the Sisters of Providence.
