John Lloyd Thorn, 85, of School Street died yesterday at Williamstown Commons.
Born in Toronto, Canada, on Feb. 23, 1917, son of John H. and Elizabeth Lennox Thorn, he attended schools in Canada.
He joined the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II and served in the Middle East, India and England.
Mr. Thorn moved to the United States and married the former Jane Ritchie Sides on June 6, 1956, in St. John's Church in Wellesley Hills. They moved to Niagara Falls, N.Y., where they both worked for the Treadway Inn chain. In 1961, they moved to Williamstown, where Mr. Thorn was innkeeper of the former Treadway Inn, the Williams Inn, until his retirement.
He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church and a 54-year member of the University Lodge of Free and Accepted Masons in Toronto.
His wife died Aug. 4, 1996. He leaves a daughter, Sarah O'Shea of Granby; a brother, Hartford Thorn of Ganges, British Columbia, Canada, and two grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service celebrating the life of John Lloyd Thorn will be conducted Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Rev. Peter Elvin, rector. All members of Williams Lodge, AF & AM, are asked to meet at St. John's Episcopal Church on Friday at 10:30 to conduct services in memory of Mr. Thorn.
Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. Should friends desire, contributions in John Lloyd Thorn's memory may be made to VNA/Hospice of Northern Berkshire through the office of GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267.
Mr. Thorn also leaves grandchildren Marguerite Catherine O'Shea and Conor Lennox O'Shea, both of Granby, and a nephew, Ross Thorn, of Ganges, British Columbia. He was predeceased by a brother, Norman Thorn.
