WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Esther May Dickinson, 81, of 722 New Ashford Road died Saturday, Jan. 4, 2003, at North Adams Regional Hospital, where she was admitted Jan. 2.
Born in Williamstown on April 14, 1921, daughter of Norman and Irene Hewes Haley, she moved to Brooklyn, N.Y., as a child and attended schools there.
A veteran of World War II, she served with the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps and was stationed in Georgia.
Mrs. Dickinson was employed by the Springs Motel in New Ashford. For most of her life, she assisted her husband, Guy C. Dickinson, in the operation of the Dickinson White Star family farm on New Ashford Road.
She also worked at the former Sprague Electric Co. in North Adams, Sperry Gyroscope Co. in New York state and part time as a seamstress for Rita Watson's.
She was a member of Second Congregational Church of South Williamstown and a former member and officer of the South Williamstown Community Club. She enjoyed crafts, knitting, sewing, crocheting and cooking.
She and her husband celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary July 7.
Besides her husband, she leaves a daughter, Donna L. Sampson and her husband, James E., of Williamstown; a sister, Ethel V. Dickinson of Pownal, Vt.; two grandchildren, Kathy MacAlpine and Scott Grant; five great-grandchildren, Michelle, Daniel and Bradley Grant, and Elle and Holly MacAlpine.
She was predeceased by her sister Mary Haley.
FUNERAL NOTICE — Services for Mrs. Dickinson will be conducted Wednesday at 1 at Second Congregational Church of South Williamstown by the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor.
Burial will be in the springtime in the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery. Calling hours at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, will be tomorrow from 4 to 7.
