James C. Costanzo, 83

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — James C. Costanzo, 83, of 876 Hancock Road died Thursday evening, Feb. 20, 2003, at home surrounded by family.

Born in Pittston, Pa., on Aug. 30, 1919, son of Salvatore and Maria Augello Costanzo, he was a 1936 graduate of Pittston High School. He resided in Schenectady, N.Y., before moving to Berkshire County in 1988 and to Williamstown in 1998.

Mr. Costanzo was employed by GE in Schenectady, retiring in 1980. Before that, he worked for several years at American Locomotive Co.

He was a communicant of the Parish of Sts. Patrick and Raphael. While living in Schenectady, he was a communicant of St. Gabriel's Church and a member of the Sons of Italy Lodge.

He and his wife, the former Mary Forte, were married June 7, 1941, in St. Rocco's Church in Pittston.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Salvatore Costanzo of Stuyvesant, N.Y.; a daughter, Marie Ostrander of Williamstown, with whom he made his home; a sister, Kathleen Venditti of Schenectady; four grandchildren, Gretchen West, David Costanzo, Matthew Ostrander and Kara Daoust, and a great-granddaughter, Emily Margaret West.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Josephine Ponzillo and Sarah Serapilio, and by two brothers, Charles and Carmel Costanzo.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Costanzo will be Tuesday morning at 9 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown, at 10, celebrated by the Rev. Richard L. Kirouac, administrator pro-tem at Sts. Patrick and Raphael Parish. Burial will be in the spring in the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery.

Calling hours at the funeral home will be Monday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the Williamstown Council on Aging through the funeral home.
