Alice Elizabeth "Betsy" Postle, 80, a former resident, died Monday at Leesburg (Fla.) Regional Medical Center.
She moved to Williamstown in 1947, to Seminole, Fla., in 1978, and to Leesburg in 1999. She was the mother of Nancy McCarthy of Williamstown.
Born in West Hartford, Conn., on April 22, 1922, daughter of Lee Roy and Evelyn Ross, she was a 1940 graduate of Kingswood-Oxford School. She also graduated from Syracuse University in 1944, where she was a member of the Kappa Alpha Theta sorority.
While in Williamstown, she was active in Girl Scouts, the Williamstown Garden Club, the Women's Exchange and the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute. While in Seminole, she was a docent with Heritage Village and active in the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Pinellas Historical Society.
In Leesburg, Mrs. Postle was a member of the Morrison United Methodist Church and the bridge and duplicate bridge clubs. She was an avid bridge player and an accomplished rug hooker.
Her husband, Albert H. Postle Jr., whom she married June 15, 1946, died in 1999.
She also leaves another daughter, Susan Hackney of Leesburg; a son, Albert H. Postle III of Latham, N.Y.; two brothers, Donald Ross and Philip E. Ross; and six grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to the LRMC Foundation, 701 Palmetto St., Leesburg, FL 34748. Mrs. Postle leaves her six grandchildren, Casey B. McCarthy, Kyle C. McCarthy, Zach Postle, Jeb Postle, Ross A. Hackney and Elizabeth H. "Libby" Hackney; daughter-in-law Asha Postle; sons-in-law, Michael McCarthy and Harry Hackney; and a cousin, Dorothy Johnson. She will be cremated under the direction of Beyers Funeral Home, Leesburg, Fla.
