Lawrence Henry "Butch" Gross, 82, of 47 Charles St., a former longtime resident of Adams, died yesterday morning at North Adams Regional Hospital, where he had been admitted Wednesday.
Born in Adams on April 3, 1920, son of Paul Gross and Sophie Krzeminski Gross Hemenway, he graduated from the former Adams High School in 1939. He moved to Williamstown three years ago.
Mr. Gross worked at GE in the ordnance department for 41 years, retiring in 1982.
He was a member of St. Mark's Episcopal Church and of the GE Quarter Century and Pensioners' clubs. He enjoyed traveling.
His wife, the former Louise Anna Keller, whom he married Nov. 20, 1941, died Dec. 18, 1989.
He leaves a daughter, Maxine Morin of Williamstown; a son, Dr. Lawrence H. Gross Jr. of Williamstown, and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Lawrence Henry "Butch" Gross will be conducted Wednesday, March 12, at 2 at AUGÉ-PACIOREK-SIMMONS FUNERAL HOME, 13 Hoosac St., Adams, by the Rev. Michael McCue, rector of St. Mark's Episcopal Church. Burial will follow in Bellevue Cemetery, Adams.
Calling hours will be tomorrow, March 11, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations may be made to the VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire or to Village Ambulance Service, both through the funeral home. He leaves his grandchildren, Jennifer A. Morin, Jamie L. Gross and Christopher Gross, all of Williamstown, and Lynda A. Gross of New York, and several nieces and nephews. His son-in-law, Edward J. Morin, died Oct. 5, 2002.
