Guy C. Dickinson

Guy C. Dickinson, 79, of 722 New Ashford Road, died yesterday at home.
Born on the Dickinson family farm in South Williamstown on March 4, 1924, son of Clarence and Eva Roys Dickinson, he attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from the former Williamstown High School. He was a veteran of the Army.
For all of his life, except for a short time when he worked at the former Cornish Wire Co. in Williamstown, he lived and worked on the Dickinson White Star family farm on New Ashford Road. He was best known as a self-employed logger. He logged his own property and other properties throughout the area, retiring in 1991.
He was a member of the second Congregational Church in South Williamstown. He was a painter and an expert jewelry setter. He was an outdoorsman and was handy at building and fixing things.
His wife of 50 years, the former Esther May Haley, whom he married July 7, 1952, died Jan. 4, 2003.
He leaves a daughter, Donna L. Sampson of South Williamstown; a sister, June Santiago of North Adams; two grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Funeral services for longtime South Williamstown farmer and logger Guy C. Dickinson will take place Saturday at 2 at the Second Congregational Church of South Williamstown, with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor, officiating. Burial will take place in the spring in the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery.
Calling hours at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, are Friday from 4 to 7. Memorial donations are suggested for the Williamstown Village Ambulance of the Second Congregational Church of South Williamstown in care of the funeral home. Other survivors include his son-in-law James E. Sampson of South Williamstown; two grandchildren, Kathy McAlpine and Scott Grant; five great-grandchildren, Michelle Grant, Daniel Grant, Bradley Grant, Elle MacAlpine and Holly MacAlpine. He was predeceased by two sisters, Grace Haley and Doris Haley, and a brother, Clifford Dickinson.
