Robert R. Carmichael Jr.

Robert R. Carmichael Jr., 79, of Willshire Drive died Tuesday afternoon at Sweet Brook following a long illness.

Born in Bristol, R.I., on May 20, 1924, son of Robert R. Carmichael Sr. and Margaret Nichols Carmichael, he received his early education at the Moses Brown School and was a graduate of Lenox High School. He also graduated from Babson College.

An Army veteran of World War II, he received several medals and ribbons.

Mr. Carmichael was employed by the Massachusetts Department of Employment and Security as a field investigator.

Earlier, he had worked at the former Ankin Chemical.

He was a member of the American Legion, the Sportsmen Club, the Investment Club and the Power Squadron.

He enjoyed reading mystery books and investing.

He leaves his wife, the former June Miller Rowan, whom he married June 27, 1987, in St. John’s Episcopal Church in North Adams; two stepsons, Frank Rowan of Oakwood, Ga., and Zachary Rowan of Little Rock, Ark.; two brothers, Francis Carmichael of Clarksburg and William Carmichael of Troy, N.Y., and four grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral for Robert R. Carmichael Jr., who died June 10, 2003,will be conducted Saturday, June 14, at 10 at St. John’s Episcopal Church by the Rev. Edward King, pastor.

Burial will take place in the family lot in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. There will be no calling hours. If friends desire, memorial contributions may be made to the Parkinson’s Support Group of Williamstown through GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267.
