John S. Maynard

John S. Maynard, 84, of 60 Harrison Ave., died Wednesday at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.
Born in Williamstown on Sept. 11, 1918, son of James W. and Ethel Bratcher Maynard, he attended schools in Williamstown.
He was a veteran of World War II, serving as an Army private first class in France, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Luxembourg with the Battery B, 7th Artillery Battalion.
He received commendations and medals, and was honorably discharged in 1946.
He was most recently employed as an auto mechanic at the former Ott & Berger Co., retiring in 1985.
Before that he worked for several years at the former Gevaert Co. of America Inc.
He was a member of the Williamstown VFW Post 9304, and liked to read and fish.
He leaves his wife, Joyce Brothers Maynard, whom he married in Williamstown in 1941; four daughters, Joan Bushika of Cheshire, Jean Maynard of Williamstown, and Joy Primmer and Julie Martell, both of Pownal, Vt., and five grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Private graveside services for John S. Maynard will take place Saturday at the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery, South Williamstown, with military honors conducted by members of the Richard Reuther Post 152 American Legion. There are no calling hours.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested for the American Cancer Society through the FLYNN & DAGNOLI HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247. Survivors also include three sons-in-law, John Primmer, George Bushika and Valmore Martell, and five grandchildren, Mark and Eric Bushika, Josh Primmer, and Michele and Heather Martell. He was predeceased by two brothers, Herman and Francis Maynard.
