Norman Everett Fielding

Norman Everett Fielding, 76, of 85 Nutmeg Lane died Thursday at the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt.
Born in Barre on Aug. 2, 1926, son of Clarence and Helen Hunt Fielding, he attended schools in Greenfield and graduated from Valley Forge Military Academy in Wayne, Pa., and Mount Hermon Preparatory School in Northfield. In 1951, he graduated from Boston University with a degree in administration.
A Naval Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served in the Philippines as a combat air crewman. He received several campaign medals.
Mr. Fielding was employed by Byron Weston Co. in Dalton in sales and sales management, retiring after 34 years of service.
He had also worked as a salesman for Tuttle Law Print Co. in Rutland, Vt., and the United States Envelope Co. in Springfield.
He was a member of West Cummington Congregational Church, where he was a former deacon, and a member of the Republican Lodge of Masons, Wahconah Country Club in Dalton and Waubeeka Golf Links in Williamstown.
He was also past commodore of Pontoosuc Sailing Club.
He was a member of the Sales-men’s Association of the Paper Industry, Boston Paper Trade Club, New York Paper Club, Family Motor Coach Association, Good Sam Camping Club and Camper Clubs of America, as well as the Motor Coach Association Clubs of America, Dalton American Legion Post 155 and Williamstown VFW Post 8304.
He was a charter member of the International Association of Clerks, Recorders, Election Officials and Treasurers.
He enjoyed traveling in his motor home, sailing, tennis, golf, swimming and skiing.
His wife, the former Jeannette Bolton, whom he married June 29, 1949, in First United Church of Greenfield, died Oct. 16, 2002.
He leaves two daughters, Susan Frew of North Adams and Candace Lottig of Victor, Colo.; a son, Scott Fielding of Pittsfield; two sisters, Phyllis Hosmer of Greenfield and Sylvia Hurlbut of South Yarmouth, and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by another daughter, Debra Gavell, on Sept. 5, 2002.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Celebration of Norman Everett Fielding’s Life will take place Saturday, Aug. 16, at 10 at First Congregational Church of North Adams, with the Rev. Jill Graham, pastor, officiating.
Burial will follow in Barber District Cemetery in Winchester, N.H. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for First Congregational Church or to the Centers for Living & Rehabilitation in Bennington, Vt., through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, MA 01247.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Bridget Herman, Richard Frew Jr., Laurel Gavell, Adam Lottig and Kimberly Lottig, and beloved dog, Char-lee. A daughter, Debra Gavell, died Sept. 5, 2002.
