Howard K. Marr, 84, of Sweetwood Continuing Care Community, 1611 Cold Spring Road, and a resident of New York City, died Thursday at his home in Williamstown.
Born in Vienna, Austria, on June 15, 1919, son of Robert and Elsa Marr, he attended schools there. He emigrated to the United States and settled in New York City.
He attended the University of Wisconsin and graduated from Columbia University in New York City, where he earned a bachelor’s degree in political science and Latin American studies.
He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was also the owner and operator of the family business, Robert Marr & Son Imports and Exports in New York City, a business his father had established.
At the time of his death, he was still actively involved in the company operations.
His wife, the former Lee Weiss, whom he married May 1942 in New York City, died April 20, 2002.
He leaves a daughter, Kathy Chesney of Pownal, Vt., and two granddaughters.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Calling hours for Howard K. Marr will take place Monday from 3 to 5 at the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams.
Private burial for family and close friends will take place Tuesday at 10:30 in the family plot in Southlawn Cemetery, South Williamstown.
Memorial donations are suggested for the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Research Center through the funeral home. Survivors include two granddaughters, Kristina and Alan Chesney.
