William Reopell

William Reopell, 67, of 16 Prospect Hill Road, Royalston, N.H., a native of Williamstown, died Sunday at Cheshire Medical Center in Keene, N.H., after being stricken.
Born on May 6, 1936, son of Lawrence and Carrie Dorvillier Reopell, he was a 1954 graduate of the former Williamstown High School and a 1958 graduate of Amherst College.
He had often spent time in Royalston while living in New York City and had moved there full time eight years ago.
Mr. Reopell was in the publishing business, working first for Reader’s Digest in Pleasantville, N.Y., then for the San Juan Star in Puerto Rico for 15 years.
He was director of publications for Jersey City (N.J.) University for many years until his retirement, after which he scheduled lectures there, bringing in speakers from throughout the country.
He was a member of the Williams Club in New York City and served on the Royalston Board of Selectmen for several years.
He enjoyed theater, opera, the arts and traveling,
His wife of 31 years, the former Ola Smith, died in 2001.
He leaves a brother, Nelson Reopell of Pittsfield, and two sisters, Larrie Ann Noyes of Williamstown and Barbara Martin of Springfield.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Graveside services will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at 11 in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701-9376. HIGGINS-O’CONNOR FUNERAL HOME, 146 Main St., Athol, is directing arrangements.
