Richard T. McKnight, 82, of Bridges Road died Saturday at home.
Born in Akron, Ohio, on April 13, 1921, son of William T. and Mildred B. White McKnight, he was a 1939 graduate of John Marshall High School and attended Fenn College, both in Cleveland. In 1957, he returned to college.
He graduated in 1960 from Tri State College in Angola, Ind., and moved to Berkshire County to work for the former Sprague Electric Co.
An Army Air Corps veteran of World War II, he served as a navigator with the Air Transport Command in the China, Burma and India campaigns.
Mr. McKnight was employed by the Hoosac Water Quality District for 29 years. He began with the department as a technician when the plant became operational. Earlier, he had worked for the RCA Service Co. as a radio and television technician and was later transferred to the Missile Test Project, where he served as manager of a tracking station in the Caribbean.
He was a former committeeman of Boy Scout Troop 70 and volunteered with the Williamstown Boys’ Club.
His wife, the former Elvy Johansson, died in 1983.
He leaves a daughter, Laura M. Randall of West Suffield, Conn.; two stepsons, Glenn E. Johansson of North Adams and Brian D. Johansson of Wellesley; a stepdaughter, Nancy E. Aldridge of Ashburn, Va.; two granddaughters, and eight step-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Richard T. McKnight, 82, of Williamstown will be private and at the convenience of the family. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Arrangements are under the direction of GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown. Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice through the funeral home.
