Kerby Simonds

Kerby Simonds, 81, of Stratton Road died Monday at North Adams Regional Hospital.
Born in Minneapolis on Aug. 29, 1922, daughter of Frederick K. and Mary Winning Comer, she attended schools in the United States and Canada, moving wherever her father, an actor, had roles.
Mrs. Simonds had worked in publishing for many years, including writing for the former Williamstown News. She edited the Village Fair page and wrote its two columns, "Homespun" and "Serendipity," and items of local interest.
During the 1950s, she was a copywriter for Timely Associates in New York City and, in the 1940s, was the assistant to Lois Long, who wrote the "On and Off the Avenue" page in The New Yorker magazine.
She was a volunteer at the Woman's Exchange for 35 years and, in 1974, was the publicity director for the Williamstown Community Chest.
She married John Peebles Boyd in 1943; they were later divorced.
Her husband, David Haskell Simonds, died in 1996.
She leaves a daughter, Tracy Boyd of Bridgehampton, N.Y.; a son, David Hamilton Simonds of New York City; four stepchildren, Christopher H. Simonds of Hudson, N.Y., Sarah M. Simonds of Sacramento, Calif., Katherine K. Simonds of Washington, D.C., and Michael E. Simonds of Greencastle, Pa., two grandchildren and four stepgrandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service for Kerby Simonds, who died Nov. 10, 2003, will be held Saturday, Nov. 22, at 1 at St. John's Episcopal Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. John's Memorial Fund or Village Ambulance Service through GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., which is in charge of arrangements.
Survivors include two grandchildren, George and Olivia, and four stepgrandchildren, Ann, Katherine, Abigail and Madeline.
