Florence L. Chalmers

Florence L. Chalmers, 94, formerly of 127 Riverside Drive, died Friday at Sweet Brook Care Centers.

Born in Clarksburg on Jan. 7, 1910, daughter of Amedee and Angelina Trahan Roy, she attended schools in Clarksburg and North Adams, including the former Notre Dame School.

She moved to Williamstown from Clarksburg in 1981.

Mrs. Chalmers was employed by the former Lamb's Stationery Store in North Adams for many years until retiring in 1965. She also had worked in the Jones Division of the former Arnold Print Works in Adams.

She was a longtime communicant of Notre Dame Church in North Adams and a former member of the Court Margaret 296 Catholic Daughters of America, where she served as secretary in her younger years.

Her husband, Robert Hamilton Chalmers Sr., whom she married June 17, 1939, died Dec. 3, 1989.

She leaves a son, Robert Hamilton Chalmers Jr. of Adams; two daughters, Margaret Soucy of Sanbornton, N.H., and Marilyn Mitchell of Immokalee, Fla.; three grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Another daughter, Roberta Chalmers, died in 1944.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Florence L. Roy Chalmers will take place Tuesday at 10:15 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11 at Our Lady of Mercy Church, State Road, North Adams.

Burial will follow in Southview Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for the charity of the donor's choice through the funeral home. Survivors include three grandchildren, Michelle Mondelli, David Soucy and Robert H. Chalmers III, and five great-grandchildren.

She was predeceased by a daughter, Roberta Chalmers, four sisters, Kit Butts, Edith Isaacson, Gertrude Kirby and Yvonne Marion, and four brothers, Francis, Ernest, Harry and Frederick Roy.
