Patricia A. Varner, 78, of Weirton, W. Va., died Tuesday at the Weirton Medical Center.
She was a native of Williamstown.
Born in Williamstown on Aug. 17, 1925, the daughter of Patrick Joseph and Margaret Mary Kelley Walsh, she graduated from Williamstown High School in 1943.
She was a homemaker. Early in her life she was employed at the Hopkins Furniture Store, where she met her husband.
They were married in St. Patrick's Church, and moved to Weirton in 1945.
She was a communicant of St. Paul's Church in Weirton.
She was a 25-year member, past secretary and treasurer of the Weirton Community Radio Watch; a member of AARP, Weir Cove Chapter 3826; lifetime member with over 7,000 hours, past treasurer and recording secretary of Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary, where she was also a member of the Original Hospital Mum Twig; and 50-year member and past president of Beta Sigma Phi-Laureate Phi Chapter, which is part of the Weirton Women's Club.
She was also a member and past recording secretary of the General Federation Woman's Club, where she was also a member of the Garden and Literary clubs; a member of Marland Heights Civic Association, member and treasurer for 18 years for the Hancock County Easter Seals Society, and member and past officer of the Weir High Band Parents from 1958 to 1970.
She enjoyed playing 500 Bid in different card clubs.
Her husband, Teddy T. Varner, died March 21, 1995.
She leaves a son, Timothy T. Varner of Weirton; one daughter, Margaret "Peg" Varner of Sarasota, Fla., five grandchildren and two great-grandsons.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Funeral Liturgy with Mass will be celebrated for Patricia A. Varner, who died Feb. 10, 2004, on Feb. 16 at 10 at St. Paul's Church in Weirton. Entombment will follow at St. Paul Cemetery. Calling hours will be Sunday, Feb. 15, from 1 to 3 and 7 to 9 at the GRECO-HERTNICK FUNERAL HOME, 3219 Main St., Weirton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Weirton Medical Center Auxiliary, 601 Colliers Way, Weirton, WV 26062. Survivors include five grandchildren, Patricia McCormick, Douglas Hutson, Allison Bones, Shannon Varner and Kaitlin Varner, and two great-grandsons, Phillip and Parker McCormick.
She was predeceased by a brother, Patrick Walsh, and a sister, Mary I. Walsh. Tributes for Mrs. Varner may be shared with her family at www.grecohertnick.com .
