Arthur W. Norman, 78

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. — Arthur William Norman, 78, of 59 Langlois Ave. died Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 18, 2004, at Sweet Brook Care Centers, where he was admitted a week ago.

Born in Williamstown on Dec. 23, 1925, son of Peter and Grace E. Northup Moreau Norman, he attended schools there.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II.

Mr. Norman was a painting contractor and cabinetmaker for many years. He was first employed at Mount Hope Farm, where he worked with several members of his family.

He enjoyed fishing and was an avid collector of coins, dolls and Indian artifacts. He also enjoyed gardening. He was known for his generosity.

His longtime companion, Marguerite B. Gould, died Oct. 11, 2003.

He leaves a daughter, Kathleen Farren of Colorado; a son, Michael Norman of Williamstown; a brother, George E. Moreau of North Adams; two sisters, Shirley Booth of Adams and Ruth Stokes, both of Williamstown, five grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.

He was predeceased by two sons, David Norman and Arthur Norman Jr.; a grandson, Robert H. Norman, who was killed serving in the Marines in California; two sisters, Pearl Martin and Mary Jane Tovani, and a brother who died in infancy.

FUNERAL NOTICE — The funeral for Mr. Norman will be conducted Saturday, Feb. 21, at 11 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, by the Rev. Susan Stewart, pastor of First United Methodist Church, North Adams.

Calling hours will be Saturday from 10 until the time of the funeral. Donations may be made to Sweet Brook Care Centers in care of the funeral home.
