Marilyn Anne Kirby

Marilyn Anne Kirby, 76, of Meadowvale, 35 Adams Road, died yesterday at Williamstown Commons, where she had resided since last October.

Born in Greenfield on Feb. 8, 1928, daughter of Edward B. and Gertrude Sessler Eastman, she was educated there and graduated at the age of 16 from Greenfield High School in 1944.

She also graduated from the former North Adams State College, now Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts, with a bachelor of science degree in education in 1948.

Before her retirement in 1998, Mrs. Kirby was employed as a proofreader with Excelsior Printing Co. in North Adams. She was first employed in the North Adams Public Schools as a teacher and later taught second grade at the former Broadbrook Elementary School in Williamstown for many years until the school closed.

She then was a special needs teacher in the Williamstown Elementary Schools for several years.

She was a member of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Order of Eastern Star.

She leaves a daughter, Susan L. Preite of North Adams; two sons, William M. Kirby III and of North Adams and David C. Kirby of Lincoln, Neb., and 10 grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Marilyn Kirby will be Wednesday, March 3, 2004 at 9:00 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, with the Rev. Penny Rich Smith, pastor of Second Congregational Church of Williamstown, officiating.

Burial will be in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Tuesday from 5 to 8 at the funeral home. Donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of North Berkshire in care of the funeral home.

Survivors include a son-in-law, William A. Preite; two daughters-in-law, Deborah Kirby and Ann Kirby; 10 grandchildren, Jessica Anne Preite, Michela Anne Preite, Melissa L. Maxon and her husband, Robert, Christopher W. Kirby, Jacqueline D. Kirby, Erin A. Kirby, Kathryn J. Kirby, Allison E. Kirby, Breanna M. Kirby, and Kimberly Ostrobinski; a great-grandson, Anthony Michael Maxon, and two cousins, Elizabeth and Frederick Bickford.
