Eleanor Frances McCarthy Horton

Eleanor Frances McCarthy Horton, 85, formerly of 62 Bachand Ave., died Friday evening at Sweetbrook Care Centers, where she had resided since March 1995.

Born in Haverhill on Jan. 17, 1919, daughter of John and Mary Molloy Campbell, she graduated from Haverhill High School. She also graduated from Lawrence Memorial Nursing School in Lawrence.

She moved to Williamstown in 1957.

Mrs. Horton was employed by the Visiting Nurse Association of Northern Berkshire County. Prior to that, she worked in the infirmary of Williams College and at the former Adams Nursing Home, now Williamstown Commons.

She was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church.

She enjoyed traveling and annual trips to see "The Nutcracker Ballet."

Her first husband, Frederic McCarthy, a well-known area pharmacist, died in 1969.

Her husband, Ralph Horton, whom she married Dec. 14, 1973, died in 1986.

She leaves a son, Michael J. McCarthy of Williamstown; two daughters, Anne M. McLaren of Adams and Ellen F. Baltronis of West Suffield, Conn.; two sisters, Dorothy Thomas of Manchester, Conn., and Mary Lagasse of Thousand Oaks, Calif., six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- The private funeral for Eleanor McCarthy Horton, who died March 12, 2004, will be Monday at 2 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Burial will be in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown. There will be no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to VNA & Hospice of Northern Berkshire in care of the funeral home. Survivors include six grandchildren, Lori Duran and Jeffrey McLaren of Woburn; Casey McCarthy of Williamstown; Kyle McCarthy of Springfield; Krista Brewer and Kathryn Brewer of West Suffield, Conn., and two great-grandchildren, Kayla and Riley Duran. A granddaughter, Jennifer Brewer, died Nov. 11, 1993. A brother, John Campbell, is deceased.
