Philip E. Kalker

Philip E. Kalker, 68, of 94 Ide Road and Hilton Head Island, S.C., died at his Williamstown home Sunday after a long illness. He was a former member of the Planning Board and Finance Committee.
Born in Philadelphia on Nov. 26, 1932, son of Harry and Leona Ruttenberg Kalker, he was educated at Pine Cobble School in Williamstown and Albany (N.Y.) Academy. A 1954 graduate of Williams College, he was active in its alumni affairs and returned to the Berkshires after a long residence in Bergen County, N.J.
Mr. Kalker was president of Kalker Properties Inc., a New Jersey development firm, and subsequently formed and was president of EmDee Corp., a veterinary specialty drug company. He also had land interests in the Berkshires and owned Sylvantec Land Development Co.
He served on the board of directors of Pascack Valley Hospi-tal in Westwood, N.J., and was a trustee of Pine Cobble. He was a benefactor of numerous causes.
Mr. Kalker was a member of Taconic Golf Club in Williamstown, Sea Pines Country Club in Hilton Head, Alpine Country Club in Alpine and Demarest, N.J., and the Williams Club in New York.
He leaves his wife, the former Eloise Pokey Ledford; two daughters, Katherine R. Kalker of New York and Ginger Sutton of Gladstone, N.J.; a son, Peter W. Kalker of Syracuse, N.Y.; two sisters, Darcie Davis of New York and Avie Kalker of Williamstown, and three grandsons.
A memorial reception will be held at the Williams Inn in Williamstown on Saturday, April 28, 2001 at 12 p.m. The family requests that memorial donations be made to either the Eileen A. Barrett Oncology Center or to the VNA and Hospice of Northern Berkshire Inc., both in North Adams, through the office of GEORGE M. HOPKINS FUNERAL HOME, 61-67 Spring St., Williamstown, MA 01267. Mr. Kalker leaves three grandsons, Raleigh, Luke and Jack Stratton.
