Jeannette Lewis Galvin 94, of 273 North St. died Saturday at Sweet Brook Care Center.
Born in Williamstown on July 24, 1909, daughter of William R. and Lillian Grace Porter Chadwell, she attended schools there and in Pittsfield and received her GED from Drury High School in North Adams in the 1940s.
Mrs. Galvin was employed by Williams College as a nurses' aide in the infirmary and later worked for the buildings and grounds department at Baxter Hall. She also worked for many years for the William C. Hart family in Williamstown and as a Grey Lady at North Adams Regional Hospital.
She was a longtime member of First Congregational Church, where she was active on several committees.
She was past president of the Ecumenical Council of Churches in Berkshire County, a longtime member of Williamstown Grange 366 and a member of the Masonic Order of Eastern Star in Pittsfield.
Her husband, Reginald Harrison Galvin, died Sept. 1, 1982.
She leaves a son, Reginald C. Galvin of Williamstown, with whom she made her home.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- The funeral to celebrate the Life of Jeannette Lewis (Chadwell) Galvin will be conducted Tuesday at 2 at First Congregational Church of Williamstown by the Rev. Carrie Bail, pastor. Burial will follow in the family plot in Eastlawn Cemetery, Williamstown.
There will be no calling hours. Memorial donations are suggested for First Congregational Church of Williamstown through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, 521 West Main St. North Adams.
She was predeceased by three sisters and two brothers, Marion Chadwell, Harriet DeWitt, Lucille Cheeks, George Chadwell and Leslie Chadwell.
