Arthur V. Lee III, 83, of Green River Road died Saturday at North Adams Regional Hospital after a long battle with Parkinson's disease.

Born in Detroit on Nov. 24, 1920, son of Arthur V. Lee II and Emily Burry Lee, he was raised in Bronxville, N.Y., and graduated from Deerfield Academy and in 1942 from Williams College. He also earned an industrial administration degree and a commission in the Navy Supply Corps through an accelerated program at Harvard Business School.

He moved to Williamstown in 1992.

A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as a lieutenant assigned to the 129th Construction Battallion in Hawaii and the Philippines.

Mr. Lee had a long career in academia and business, retiring as president of Biotec International Ltd. Prior to that, he was employed by Lesley College, then by Tufts University, where he helped secure financial support to establish its veterinary school. He was first employed by drug and chemical giant McKesson & Robbins, becoming general manager successively of the Providence, R.I., Boston and Pittsburgh operations. He left McKesson to become assistant dean of Harvard Business School beginning a second career in development.

He was a member of Second Congregational Church, the Weston Finance Committee, the Taconic Golf Club and the Yeamans Hall Club in Charleston, S.C., and was a trustee of the American College of Switzerland and trustee emeritus of the Williamstown Theatre Festival.

He was an avid golfer and squash player.

His wife of 33 years, the former Jean Austin La Mothe, died in 2001.

He leaves three sons, Arthur C. "Sandy" Lee of Weston, William Jed Lee of Saint Paul, Minn., and Henry Lee of Short Hills, N.J.; a daughter, Sherrill Rosoff of Pepperell, and nine grandchildren.
