Irving Duncan Fish Jr., 81, of Meacham Street died Monday, at Sweet Brook Care Centers.
Born in Minneapolis on Jan. 30, 1923, son of Irving D. Fish Sr. and Constance Moffitt Mitchell Fish, he attended Greenwich (Conn.) Country Day School and graduated in 1940 from Hill School in Pottstown, Pa. Originally a member of the class of 1944 at Williams College, he graduated in January 1947 after his military service.
He retired to the Berkshires in the 1980s.
An Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, he served as a second lieutenant and bombardier with the 343rd Squadron, 98th Group,15th Air Force in Italy. On Aug. 18, 1944, his plane was shot down while he was flying his 43rd mission.
He was captured, but escaped and was awarded several medals, including the Purple Heart.
Mr. Fish had been a stockbroker with Smith Barney and Co. Inc. and Alex Brown and Associates in New York City.
A bird watcher, he was a longtime member of the Audubon Society and the Nature Conservancy.
He enjoyed playing golf.
He leaves his companion, Edith Schwartz;two sons, Irving D. Fish III of Minneapolis and Michael Fish of Dewitt, N.Y.; two daughters, Selina Fish Zaluda of Petaluma, Calif., and Mary Fish Arango of Carpinteria, Calif., and seven grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- Memorial services celebrating the life of Irving Duncan Fish Jr., who died June 28, 2004, will be conducted Tuesday, July 6, at 11 at St. John's Episcopal Church in Williamstown by the Revs. Peter Elvin and Sinclair Hart.
Private committal services will take place at Westlawn Cemetery in Williamstown at the convenience of the family. Should friends desire, contributions in Mr. Fish's memory may be made to the Irving D. and Constance Mitchell Fish Scholarship Fund at Williams College through the office of GEORGE M.
