William McGuire

April 29, 2001

William M. McGuire, 73, of 189 Stratton Road died Sunday morning at home.

Born in New York City on Aug. 5, 1927, son of Robert and Ellen Burke McGuire, he attended schools there and graduated from Bronx Vocational High School in 1945. He also attended Fordham University. He moved to Williamstown in 1988.

A veteran of World War II, he served with the 413th Army Air Force as a private first class.

Mr. McGuire was employed by CBS in the personnel department in New York for many years. Before that, he worked for Continental Can Manufacturing Co. in New York City for several years.

While in New York, he was a communicant of Resurrection and Ascension Church and, in Williamstown, of St. Patrick-St. Raphael Parish, where he served as a collector. He was a member of the Panthers, a morning coffee club.

He and his wife, the former Phyllis Daffee, were married May 25, 1963, in the Church of Our Savior in New York City.

Besides his wife, he leaves a son, Christopher McGuire of Williamstown; a daughter, Jennifer Sciarratta of New Hyde Park, N.Y., and two grandchildren.

A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated Friday at 11 at St. Ignatius' Church in Hicksville, N.Y. Burial will follow in the family plot in Holy Rood Cemetery. Calling hours at DALTON FUNERALS, 47 Jerusalem Ave., Hicksville, will be Wednesday from 7 to 9, and Thursday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9. Memorial donations are suggested for the National Arthritis Association through FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, which is in charge of arrangements.
