Donald Thomas "Red" Livsey, 82, of Port Charlotte, Fla., a former longtime resident of Williamstown, died Oct. 18 at Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte.
Born in Adams on May 11, 1922, son of John and Viola Howland Livsey, he attended area schools.
He built a home on Roaring Brook Road in South Williamstown, where he lived for many years until moving to Port Charlotte in the early 1980s.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he served in the South Pacific as a gunner's mate on the USS H.C. Thomas DE-21. His ship had left Pearl Harbor shortly before it was bombed.
Mr. Livsey was employed by GE for 42 1/2 years, retiring as a purchasing agent for the ordnance division.
He enjoyed fishing, hiking and hunting with his sons.
He and his wife, the former Doris Sitzman, were married Nov. 1, 1981.
Besides his wife, he leaves two sons, Thomas Livsey of Adams and Bryan Livsey of Savoy; three daughters, Cheryl Golka, Nancy Cardimino and Sandra Livsey, all of North Adams; a brother, Robert Livsey of Kentucky; a stepson, Scott Risley of Georgia; seven grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A private memorial service will be held for Donald Thomas "Red" Livsey. Survivors include two nieces and three nephews. He was predeceased by two brothers, John of Oregon and Raymond of Adams.
