Antonio Joseph DiNicola

Antonio Joseph DiNicola, 81, formerly of 141 Cole Ave., died Tuesday at Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

He had resided at Hillcrest Commons in Pittsfield since July 2003. He had moved to Williamstown in 1977.

Born in Pittsfield on April 10, 1923, son of Carlo and Louisa Damiano DiNicola Sr., he was a 1941 graduate of Pittsfield High School, where he played baseball. He was a member of the 1941 American Legion baseball team that competed in the National Championships in North Carolina.

An Army veteran of World War II, he served in the European theater with the 44th infantry division and received several medals.

Mr. DiNicola had been employed by GE in the transformer and ordnance divisions, retiring in 1985 after 44 years of service.

While in Pittsfield, he was a communicant of Mount Carmel Church. He was a member of the GE Quarter Century Club.

He enjoyed Major League Baseball, especially the Yankees.

His wife, the former Virginia H. Hall Daniels, whom he married Dec. 5, 1970, died June 18, 2003.

He leaves a brother, Carlo DiNicola Jr. of Pittsfield; two sisters, Gilda Monterosso and Diane Harris, both of Pittsfield; a stepdaughter, Diane Henderson of Springfield, six step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Antonio Joseph DiNicola will take place Monday, Nov. 29, 2004, at 9 from the FLYNN & DAGNOLI-BENCIVENGA FUNERAL HOME, 5 Elm St. A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church with the Rev. Geoffrey J. Deeker, CSS, officiating.

Burial will follow in the family plot at Eastlawn Cemetery in Williamstown. Calling hours will be Sunday, Nov. 28, from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Survivors include a sister-in-law, Dianne DiNicola of Pittsfield; a brother-in-law, Charles Monterosso of Pittsfield, and several nieces and nephews, great-nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by two sisters, Leonora DiNicola and Dora Jones, and a brother, Pasquale DiNicola.
