Alice Irene Danaher, 69, of 537 Main St. died Monday at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, Vt.
Born in Pownal, Vt., on Feb. 3, 1935, daughter of Allen Darwin Clark Sr. and Alice Mary Mulligan Clark, she attended Bennington schools, graduating from the former Bennington High School in 1953 and later from the former St. Joseph's Business College, now Southern Vermont College.
Mrs. Danaher worked as a private health-care provider, then as a nursing assistant at Sweetwood Continuing Care Community, from which she retired. She had first worked as a secretary at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute.
She was a longtime communicant of St. Patrick's and Raphael's Parish, where she was a greeter and a member of St. Patrick's Ladies' Guild.
She also was a member of Richard A. Ruether Post 152 American Legion Ladies' Auxiliary, serving in several offices. She was an avid gardener.
Her husband, Robert J. Danaher Sr., whom she married Aug. 16, 1958, in Our Lady of Lourdes Church in North Pownal, Vt., died March 13, 1995.
She leaves three daughters, Rosemary Alice Danaher, with whom she resided, JulieAnn Marie Danaher of Williamstown and Lisa Monique Kelly of Normal, Ill.; two sons, Robert J. Danaher Jr. of Waitsfield, Vt., and Darryl F. Danaher of Los Angeles; two sisters, Therese R. Clark of Bennington and Florence Caron of Newtown, Conn., and five grandchildren. Another son, Allen E. Danaher, died Nov. 9, 1993.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A Liturgy of Christian Burial for Alice Irene Clark Danaher, who died Dec. 13, 2004, will be celebrated Saturday at 9 at St. Patrick's Church, Williamstown.
Burial will follow in Eastlawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 5 to 7 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams. Memorial donations are suggested to the Allen E. Danaher Memorial Scholarship through the funeral home.
Survivors include five grandchildren, Robert Allen Danaher, Sarah Rae Danaher, Brendan Michael Kelly, Meghan Elizabeth Kelly and Kaitlyn Eleanor Kelly. She was predeceased by a brother, Allen D. Clark Jr. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a "Most Excellent Mother."
