Kirk Wayne "Corky" Benoit

Kirk Wayne "Corky" Benoit, 46, of 52 Langlois Ave. died Sunday at North Adams Regional Hospital after being stricken at home.

Born in North Adams on Aug. 15, 1958, son of Nancy Jennings Benoit and the late Wayne Bryant Benoit, he graduated from Charles H. McCann Technical School in 1977, where he was a member of the varsity football team.

A decorated Army veteran, he was a specialist radio teletype operator and served from May 1, 1978, to April 4, 1983.

Mr. Benoit was employed in the security and maintenance department at Sweetwood Continuing Care Community for several years until leaving because of poor health. Earlier, he worked at the former Pownal (Vt.) Tanning Co. for several years until the plant ceased operations.

He was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous and a gourmet cook.

He and his wife, the former Wendy Levesque, were married June 28, 2003, in Williamstown.

Besides his wife and mother, of North Adams, he leaves a daughter, Amanda Jo Benoit of Williamstown; a son, Wayne Richard Benoit of Pittsfield; a stepson, Ryan Levesque of Williamstown; a sister, Mary Bryant of North Adams; a brother, Jeffrey L. Benoit of Chattahoochee, Fla., and two stepgrandchildren.

FUNERAL NOTICE -- Services for Kirk Wayne "Corky" Benoit, who died Dec. 26, 2004, will be Thursday at 9:45 at FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME FOR FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial at 10:30 at St. Anthony of Padua Church, North Adams.

Burial with full military honors will follow in the family plot in Southview Cemetery. Calling hours will be Wednesday from 4 to 7 at the funeral home. Memorial donations are suggested for Village Ambulance Service through the funeral home.

Survivors include two step-grandchildren, Zowie and Zavier Levesque of Williamstown, and several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
