Marion Herr, 88, of 1611 Cold Spring Road, Sweetwood Continuing Care Community, died there Friday.
Born in Erie, Pa., on Jan. 1, 1917, daughter of Delmar and Florence Fitting Van Geem, she graduated from Mount Holyoke College and Simmons School of Library Science.
A librarian, Mrs. Herr worked for several years at the Chicago Art Institute and at Bryn Mawr College.
She moved to California in 1945, where she worked in the library of the University of California at Berkeley. Three years later, she moved to Summit, N.J., where she worked in the Fairleigh Dickinson University library.
After retirement, she moved to Amherst and to Williamstown.
Her husband, Donald Sheaffer Herr, whom she married Sept. 25, 1945, died May 2003.
She leaves a son, Dr. Douglas V. Herr of Williamstown; a daughter, Carolyn Herr Williams of North Mankato, Minn., and four grandchildren.
FUNERAL NOTICE -- A memorial service to celebrate the life of Marion Van Geem Herr will take place at the convenience of the family. FLYNN & DAGNOLI-MONTAGNA HOME for FUNERALS, West Chapels, 521 West Main St., North Adams, is in charge of arrangements.
Memorial donations may be made to the Williamstown Public Library in care of the funeral home. Burial will be in the Laurel Hill Cemetery in Erie, Pa.
Survivors also include her daughter-in-law, Bonnie H. Herr, M.D., and her son-in-law, Ned Williams, Ph.D., and four grandchildren.
